Bow
and Stern Lights
If you find yourself rowing or sailing after dark, carrying a proper
red/green bow light and a white all-around stern light is highly
recommended. This pair of Aqua Signal Portable Assets Series 23
marine running lights meets or exceeds all lawful requirements for
use on inland and international waters when properly positioned
on your boat. They use 4 AA batteries, are completely waterproof
with double O-ring Seals, float and have shock resistant rubber
housings. They use a super bright PR-17 Krypton bulb which provides
70% bright light than standard filament bulbs. They come with sturdy
metal c-clamps and an alternate mounting choice of a bracket or
a suction cup.
Protect their rubber housing by regularly applying a silicone base protectant or other similar product and these quality lights will last a lifetime. |
C-Light
Hard core rowers or sailors may want to consider strapping on (it
comes with a strap) this night time emergency light from ACR; it
can be used as a small flashlight as well and will stay alight for
more than 8 hours, and visible up to two miles. The twist on/off
control can be operated with gloves on. It's completely waterproof
and U.S.C.G. approved when powered by two "AA" alkaline
or lithium batteries (not included).Off the boat it's useful for
backpacking or as a tent light. |
Stormy
Seas Ultralight Shorty Inflatable Life Vest - Model SV100
This is the best on the market for comfort, safety and convenience.
One fanatical rower commented, "It's like a bike helmet, you know
it's there when you need it, but you can't really feel it." We love
the clean lines and the fact that there's nothing for your oar handles
to hang up on. 21 Lb. buoyancy system. A great selection of vibrant
colors. |
Air
Horn
This little lung powered tooter called the "The Lil'Dymano
Blaster Horn" meets U.S.C.G. regulations for an approved sound-making
device. It is loud, banned at boat shows, and completely environmentally
friendly depending of coarse on what the user had for lunch! It
uses no CO2 or batteries and can be heard for over a mile across
water in calm conditions. |
Bailer
A plastic jug with the top cut off makes a workable bailer but this
heavier built-to-last little plastic model has a handle which makes
it easier to hold while bailing and even more importantly also clips
onto a thwart for easy and compact stowage. |
Folding Anchor
An Anchor is handy in some situations to prevent drifting in wind, current or tide, provided its shallow enough. Folding anchor, 50 of line and a nifty teak spool completes the set. See Lines & Fenders
